7 tips to improve your emotional well-being

Times have been tough, and for some of us, stress levels have been at their peak for months. Our physical and emotional well-being has been put to the test, and we may not have had enough time or energy to take care of ourselves or relax. So, we’ve come up with seven simple ways to help you reduce your stress levels and create an environment conducive to emotional well-being. Each tip can be incorporated into your daily routine whenever it suits you.

1) Set SMART goals

SMART goals are a way to break down objectives into five smaller categories—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound—to help make them achievable. Each weekend, dedicate 15 to 20 minutes to developing your goals for the coming week and categorizing them within each category.

Start with a few goals that reflect what you want to do , not what you think you should do. Write them down somewhere you can check them off when you achieve them. Checking off completed goals is a great way to see what you’ve accomplished and to boost your positivity if you’re feeling down.

Here are some points we’ve checked off our list:

  • exercise three times a week
  • take a bath once this week.
  • to take 10,000 steps a day,
  • read one chapter per night
  • Turn off your phone after 8 p.m.
  • Meditate for five minutes a day.

These are, of course, just examples. It’s up to each of you to find the goals that suit you and that will make you feel good.

2) Practice mindfulness

Reduce daily stress by grounding yourself in your surroundings, by being aware of your presence in the world. This can be achieved simply by adopting the following habits:

In the morning,

try to wake up 20 minutes before the rest of your household to practice. If this isn’t possible, and we know how difficult it can be, practice it while you’re in the shower or making a cup of tea.

Count to four as you inhale and to four as you exhale. Repeat this exercise as you scan your body, focusing on the sensation in your toes and feet, then moving up your legs, hips, back, shoulders, arms, neck, face, jaw, and head. If you have a few extra minutes after scanning your entire body, start counting your breaths; one count for each inhale and exhale.

During the day:

The trick to being mindful during the day is to remember to practice while you’re busy. Whether you’re buried in work, preparing lunch for the family, or simply making a quick trip to the restroom, bring your mind into the present by asking yourself what you can see, smell, touch, taste, or hear.

At night

: When the children are in bed, and you finally have some time to yourself, make sure you truly spend it for yourself. Simply enjoying the pleasure of lighting a candle, getting cozy under a blanket, repeating your positive affirmations, or simply savoring a few squares of chocolate will bring you into the present moment. Try spending your evening in the present and not worrying about tomorrow.

3) Take care of your diet

As the saying goes, “you are what you eat .” This applies not only to how food affects your body but also to how it can affect your mind. Good nutrition can help improve your mood, improve your thinking, and give you more energy. Here are a few tips that might help you in your quest for healthy eating:

  • Eat regularly: three balanced meals a day will help you avoid snacking (which is sometimes unhealthy).
  • Eat a balanced diet: a mix of fiber, protein, “good” fats, and vegetables will help you maintain your energy levels throughout the day.
  • Drink enough: water is very good, but you can also have herbal tea and diluted fruit juice to help you meet the recommended 8 glasses a day.
  • Consume less caffeine: try replacing your coffee and tea with plant-based or decaf alternatives, but if that’s too difficult, opt for caffeine-free drinks in the afternoon. This will help balance your energy levels and promote restful sleep.

4) Choose a physical activity that you enjoy

It can sometimes be difficult to stay motivated every day, so it’s important to remember that any movement is good movement . Don’t be too hard on yourself, and remember that you’re the only one who can relieve the pressure.

If you have some time, it’s important to get your heart pumping. While running isn’t for everyone, try exploring your local area on foot and add a brisk walk if you like. Speaking of exploring, have you considered an e-bike? This eco-friendly and economical new mode of transportation allows you to complete your daily commutes while staying fit. Alternatively, take advantage of an online class; there are tons of videos on YouTube that cater to all fitness levels and address any injuries you might have. The key to fitness is to try and enjoy

5) Get back to sleep

Sleep is key to reducing your stress levels. We all know the feeling of having had minimal sleep, and it’s detrimental to mental health. Therefore, it’s important to practice good sleep hygiene whenever possible.

Put away your phone and take a warm bath or shower an hour before bed, use candles to create a relaxing environment, and go to bed when you’re tired. Or, if you’re already in bed and having trouble falling asleep, try a visualization technique: count down from 100, visualizing each digit as a calming environment. 99 is formed by the crashing of waves, 98 by light filtering through a few leaves, 97 by a pool of still water.

And if that doesn’t work and you’re still suffering from insomnia, it’s recommended to get up and do a chore until you feel tired again.

6) Try positive affirmations

Positive affirmations are like mini-mantras that you can repeat regularly to reinforce ideas about who you are, who you want to be, and to shed an encouraging and optimistic light on your emotional well-being. When you’re under pressure and feeling stressed, it can be helpful to remind yourself why you’re wonderful and what you love about yourself.

While it can be easy to be modest and avoid self-praise, it’s extremely important to build your self-esteem and practice self-love.

7) Love yourself!

Speaking of self-love, we are big proponents of the idea of becoming your own best friend, your loudest cheerleader, and your own partner in life. Your confidence and positivity will then give way to clarity and a stress-free outlook.

Besides positive affirmations, there are a few techniques for practicing self-love :

  • Make sure to tick off your SMART goals or write down everything you accomplished during the week.
  • Instead of stressing about your physical appearance when you look in the mirror, why not make a list of all the things you like about yourself?
  • Treat yourself regularly to the things you love in life. Whatever that means to you, make sure you enjoy it—you deserve it. We love chocolate, a good movie, wearing pajamas all day, or simply a nice glass of wine with dinner.
